DAY, LAURA GERTRUDE - Laura Gertrude Day, 88, of Moncton passed away peacefully at The Moncton Hospital on Saturday, January 25, 2014. Born in Hillsborough she was the daughter of the late George and Margaret (Blake) Harper. Laura graduated from St. Joseph’s School of Nursing, Saint John, NB and was a Registered Nurse who did private duty Nursing at the Moncton city hospital. She attended St. Augustine’s Roman Catholic Church. She will be dearly missed by her many friends at Chateau Mapleton where she enjoyed playing bingo and participating in their social activities. Laura will be sadly missed by her daughter, Nancy Middleton (Spencer) of Allison and their children, Scott and Julie Middleton; daughter, Linda Steeves (Donald) of Moncton and their daughter, Angela Derrick (Joe) and precious great grandchildren, James and Tyler Derrick; sister in law, Audrey Harper (late Claude), special nephew, Lawrence Bauer and many other nieces and nephews and their families. In addition to her parents, Laura was predeceased by her husband, Roy Day (1983), sisters, Grace Harper, Dorothy Bauer (late Larry) and Helen Harper; brothers, Charles (Murielle), Paul (Winnie), Claude, Gerald (Bessie) and Royden (Kay).
Visitation to be held at Fergusons Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton, (858-1995) on Sunday from 7:00 to 9:00 pm and Monday from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 7:00 to 9:00 pm. Funeral Mass at St. Augustine’s Roman Catholic Church on Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at 1:30 pm with Rev. Laurence Quinn-Morris officiating. Reception following the mass. Interment, Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery, Dieppe, in the spring. In Laura’s memory, donations to the Ray of Hope Needy Kitchen would be appreciated by the family.
