Joseph Yorke

Passed in: North Sydney
Passed on: January 24th, 2014

It is with the deepest of sorrow, and broken hearts, we the family announce the passing of our father, and moms best friend Papa Joe, Saturday, Jan. 24, 2014, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in North Sydney, where he resided with his wife of 52 years Linda. He was known by many as a man of many words and never passed up an opportunity to make someone laugh with his own brand of quick wit and humour. Before several years and battles with heart disease, Dad would enjoy his time outdoors fishing at his secret place ‘York Pond’ ... which is still a secret. Joe also spent time painting scenes that we will cherish and display in our home with a fondness more dear than yesterday.
Joe is survived by his wife, Linda (Matthews) Yorke; his children, Brenda, Bonaire,
Joey, Ontario, Margaret (Ray MacVicar), Sydney, and Richarda, Alberta. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Sean and Anthony, Alberta, Melissa (Marc) and Alex, Dartmouth, Joseph and Anthony, Ontario, Brian Christopher, Alberta, and Justin and Carlin, Sydney and great-grandchildren, Brooklyn and Jay, also several nieces and nephews.
Joe was the last surviving member of his immediate family and he was predeceased and welcomed home by his parents, Anthony and Margaret Yorke, brothers, Richard, Ronnie and Lloyd and his sisters, Kay, Theresa and Marie, also a number of nieces and nephews.
We wish to thank Dr. Beth MacCormick for her years of care and kindness. The nurses and doctors attending Dad at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Intensive Care Unit who so gently and with great respect ensured he had peace and comfort.
Our greatest thanks and appreciation we extend to our Mother and Dads best friend, with her love, devotion and tireless care, she brought dad through many battles and gave him many more years to enjoy another day.
Visitation for Joe will be held 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral service will be held at 11a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home with Rev. Paul Abbass officiating. Burial will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph Church Building Fund, Talbot House or to a charity of choice.
