February 11, 1925 - January 24, 2014 - Passed peacefully away at Dr. Walter Templeman Hospital on Bell Island, Friday, January 24, 2014 surrounded by her loving family and friends, age 88 years. Predeceased by her husband Ruben Gear, baby son Jimmy, her parents Joe and Belinda Mercer, 4 brothers and 2 sisters. Leaving to mourn her 3 daughters: Shirley Penny (Pat), Betty Dobbin (Cyril), Sandra Dobbin (Leo), and 1 son, Jim Gear (Betty), 15 grandchildren, 36 great - grandchildren, 6 great - great- grandchildren; and a large circle of relatives and friends. A special thank you to Dr. Laurie, to all the nurses / staff of the Bell Island hospital, and to all her home care workers over the years. As well, a heartfelt thanks to Ann Dobbin and the Sweeney family for being there with our mother in the last months of her life; and to Wayne for always making her laugh. Resting at Pendergast's Funeral home on Monday, January 27, 2014 from 10 - 12noon. Funeral Service to be held at 2:00 pm at Jackson United Church. Interment to follow at Jackson United Cemetery.
