It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Edna Ruth MacLeod, 93, on Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2014, at the Northside Community Guest Home. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family and the extended family of the Northside Community Guest Home.
Born in North Sydney on May 25, 1920, the daughter of the late George Meloney and Jean (Ross) Meloney, Edna was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, North Sydney, and was an active member of the W.M.S. Edna was a graduate of the Victoria General Hospital School of Nursing (1943). Edna took great pride in her role as a RN and was well known for her compassion and loving bedside manner, her respect for the nursing profession extended to those who cared for her for over 20 years at the guest home.
Edna is survived by her loving children, Anne (Jim) Robinson, Kingston, N.S., Fred Alan (Elaine), North Sydney, and Glenn (Karen DeAdder), Westmount; and her six beloved grandchildren, Melanie and Jamie (Bernie) Robinson, Andrew, Jonathan, Matthew and Rebecca MacLeod; one great-grandchild, Joshua Robinson and also her nieces and nephews, Patricia, Bruce, Ross, Karen and Sidney Meloney and Sandy Ball.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her devoted husband, Purcell MacLeod, brothers, Ross and Sidney (Lois) Meloney, and in-laws Billy (Gordie) Lovett, Marion (Doug) Ball, and nephew, Ian Lovett.
Visitation for Edna will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Thursday at the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Friday at Calvary Baptist Church, Beech Street, North Sydney, with Rev. John Hannem officiating. Burial will be at Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney, at a later date.
