Lawrence Donald Doherty - 61, of Waterville, Kings County, passed away surrounded by family, Monday, February 3, 2014 in the QEII Health Sciences Centre, New Halifax Infirmary Site, Halifax. Raised in Black Rock, Kings County, he was a son of Evelyn (Coleman) Doherty, Black Rock and the late Donald Doherty. He was dedicated and hard working, having spent 30 years in the poultry industry, retiring early due to health considerations. He later served as part-time custodian at both Bethany Memorial Baptist Church and the Coldbrook Baptist Church. He had a good sense of humour and enjoyed dancing, gardening, going to crib tournaments, hunting and fishing. He was loving and compassionate with a genuine concern for others. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, the former Twyla Trimper; two sons, Dwight Doherty (Dena), Kentville; Chad Doherty, Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan; a granddaughter, Felicity; two step-daughters, Amanda (Dave) Hewey, Coldbrook; Laura Marshall, Wolfville; a sister, Janet Dorey, South Alton; a brother-in-law, Victor Hamilton, Welsford; nieces and nephews. In addition to his father, he was predeceased by a sister, Helen Hamilton. Visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, February 5, 2014 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 6, 2014, Reverend Thelma McLeod officiating. Burial took place in the Black Rock Cemetery. Donations in memory may be made to the Canadian Red Cross Society or the Annapolis Valley Victorian Order of Nurses.
