It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Florence Isabel MacKinnon, 101-years old.
Florence gently passed away with her family at her side on Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2014, at Seaview Manor, Glace Bay, where she had resided for the past five years.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Pauline MacDonald, and was a former member of Warden United Church, Glace Bay.
Florence cherished the moments she spent with her loving family and her extended family, the staff of Seaview Manor, who touched her heart deeply.
Florence is survived by her daughter, Viola Morrison; grandchildren, John Morrison (Denise MacPhee), Gerald Morrison (Valarie), Laura Bruffatto, Michelle Mauger (Wayne); she is also survived by her loving great-grandchildren, Jason Bruffatto (Pam), Dwayne Bruffatto (Megan), Ryan Bruffatto (Lisa), Greg Morrison (Elizabeth), Jeff Morrison, Ashley Mauger, Brittany Mauger, Evan Morrison; seven great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Annabelle Jenkins, Mildred Campbell, Katherine MacKenzie and brother, Malcolm MacDonald. She will also be sadly missed by family friend Linda MacCuish and the staff of Seaview Manor, especially Carrie.
Besides her parents, Florence was predeceased by her loving husband, Arthur MacKinnon, sisters, Janet Gilbert, Muriel Burnett, Helen MacPherson, brothers, Jim, John and Greg.
In honoring her wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A graveside service will be held in Greenwood cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests all donations in Florence's memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
