BEST (Thomas), Barbara Ruth – age 80, Aylesford East, Kings Co., died peacefully on Tuesday, February 4, 2014, at Grand View Manor, Berwick, with her family by her side. Born in Aylesford East, on February 27, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Starr Paige and Mary Alberta “Mayme” (Creemer) Thomas. Barb worked as a nurse's aide at Western Kings Memorial Hospital, Berwick, for a number of years. She was a wonderful cook and made wonderful pies for family meals (not just one but probably six different kinds). Barb’s 'cowboy cookies' were a favorite. She had a passion for lobster. Barb enjoyed travelling and did so extensively; two of her favorites were New Zealand and an Alaskan Cruise. She had a quiet demeanor and a great sense of humor. Barb was an avid bridge player and enjoyed golfing. She was proud of her children and grandchildren. Barb was the last surviving member of her immediate family and will be deeply missed by her children, Terry (Robyn) Red Deer, Alta; Starr (Debbie) Woodville; Mary Ella Cleveland, Lake George; Michael (Cathy) Harmony; 11 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was predeceased by husband, Carl Reginald; son, Timothy Carl; son-in-law, Edward Cleveland; brothers, Manson, Robert and Blakie Thomas; sister, Reta Sawlor. Visitation was held at Aylesford United Church, 2414 Hwy No.1, Aylesford, on Friday, February 7, 2014, from 2-4 pm, and from where the funeral service took place on Saturday, February 8, 2014, at 2 pm. Rev. Brenda Nesbitt officiated, assisted by Rev. Dr. Judith Saunders and a reception followed at the church hall, burial was in the Aylesford Union Cemetery. Family flowers only, donations may be made to Grand View Manor or charity of one's choice. Barb's family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to not only the nursing staff of Grand View Manor for their compassionate care, but to staff from all departments who often dropped in just to say hi. Your thoughtfulness did not go unnoticed. Also a sincere thank you to Dr. Goddard for his professional and caring expertise.
