Robert 'Cy' Kennedy

Born In: Glace Bay

Passed on: February 3rd, 2014

“You can take the boy out of Cape Breton but you can’t take Cape Breton out of the boy.”
In saying that, it is with great sadness we announce the passing of Cy Kennedy at home on Feb. 3, 2014 at the age of 80 years.
Cy was born in Glace Bay, N.S. to Jim and Isabelle Kennedy.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Sylvia; son, Jim (Cheri); daughter, Kathy (Lance); grandchildren, T.J., Trista (Kyle) (great-grandson on the way!), Thomas and Jennifer. He is also survived by sister, Sarah (Walter); brothers, Thomas (Janice), Daniel (Morag) and was predeceased by brother, Evan (Joan).
He was extremely proud of his Cape Breton heritage and his 33 year career in the Royal Canadian Air Force (retiring as a Master Warrant Officer). During his various postings, he made many friends across Canada and the United States. Cy was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was known for his quick wit, off the wall sense of humour and loved eating fresh lobster with friends and family. His other passion was travelling. He and Sylvia enjoyed many years of trekking to various parts of the world (Hawaii being his favorite). He also enjoyed hockey, golf, curling and anything connected with electronic gadgets. Who will figure out the TV remotes now?
Special thanks go to the Kolstad Families (our extended family), to the staff of the Cross Cancer Institute (Dr. Mary Loree Larratt), and to our family doctor (Dr. David Hasinoff and his staff). Cy really appreciated the many phone calls and visits from the family and friends. These would often generate boisterous discussions, especially when the topic was about government policies. Our heartfelt thanks to all who have supported us through this difficult time. We couldn’t have done it without all of you.
Respecting Cy’s request, no services will be held.
In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations in his name be made to the Cross Cancer Institute, 11560 University Ave., Edmonton, Alta., T6G 1Z2.
Please share your memories of him with us by logging on to edmontonjournal.com/obituaries or through a card to the family.
