It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather and brother, Brian Strickland on Saturday, February 8, 2014, at home.
Born in Sydney Mines, he was the son of the late Louis and Theresa (Donovan) Strickland.
Brian worked as a labourer in the construction industry in Ontario for many years, before moving back home to Cape Breton.
Brian enjoyed fishing and hunting and spent most summer evenings fishing mackerel at the wharf with his buddies John and Roddie.
Brian is survived by his wife and best friend, Kathleen 'Kathy' Hayden; his children, Michelle Gillis (Adam Joyce), Theresa Gillis (Eric Doucet), Brian (Laurette) Strickland; step daughters, Denise (Joey) Power, Patricia Woodfine (Jason Whitty); by his grandchildren, Hailey, Miley, Mackenzie, Liam, Jordan, Peyton, Faith, Abbi, Jayla and Brody. Also surviving are his siblings, Elizabeth Broughton, Winnifred MacNeil, Wayne (Michelle), Helen (Dave) Rendell, Cecil, Roger, Tommy (Katrina), Neil; by his sister-in-law, Patsy MacDougall, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Brian was predeceased by sisters, Anne Marie MacIntyre, Theresa and Brenda Strickland; brothers, George 'Beau' Strickland and James 'brother' Strickland.
In keeping with Brian’s wishes, there will be no visitation. A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held 3 p.m. Thursday, at St. John Anglican Church, North Sydney with Rev. Carl Fraser, officiating. Burial will take place at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made to the Discretionary Fund of St. John Anglican Church.
