Joseph "Joe" Belliveau

BELLIVEAU, JOSEPH "JOE" - Joseph "Joe" Belliveau, 84, of Shediac, passed away on Sunday, February 9th, 2014 at the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont UHC. Born on December 9, 1929 in Shediac, he was the son of the late Edmond and Florine (Boudreau) Belliveau. Throughout his youth, Joe was always involved in some type of sports, mainly baseball and hockey. He was a local athlete who distinguished himself on and off the ice. He was on the provincial high school Championship team during the 1947-1948 seasons. Because of his accomplishments as an athlete, he is now inducted in the Shediac Wall of Fame for the SCM Hockey Team. Apart from his life as a hockey enthusiast, he was also a passionate trout and smelt fisherman, the founder of the Shediac little league minor baseball, and the co-owner of the Bellco dry-cleaning. For most of his life, he managed his business until he sold it two years ago, at the age of 82. Joe and Rhea have been very active, enjoying each other’s company and travelling for the last 65 years. The couple enjoyed the Moncton Wildcats, the Casino, beautiful sunsets at the Pointe-du-Chêne Wharf, and they loved spending quality time with their grand-kids. Everywhere he went, he was always making friends. He will always be remembered as a friend, a father, an incredible grandfather and a businessman loved by all. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Rhea (Belliveau) Belliveau; his children: Jocelyne Ross (Mike), Suzanne Cormier (Donald), Marie José Gould (Brian) all of Shediac, Jacques (Suzanne Gaudet) of Ottawa; three sisters: Stella Belliveau, Hectorine Maillet (Albert), Jeanita Allain (Ronald) all of Shediac; three brothers: Ovide (Thérèse) of Bathurst, Urbain (Brenda), Ronald, of Shediac; 11 grandchildren: Kory, Isabelle, Véronique, Géneviève, Samia, Xavier, Caroline, Jérémie, Chantal, Sophie and Karen; four great-grandchildren: Rébecca, Kassiopée, Eliam and Phoebe; a son-in-law, Fernand Melanson; many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by a daughter, Micheline Melanson, and by a brother, Camille.
The family will receive condolences at Frenette Funeral Centre, 396 Main Street, Shédiac (532-3297) on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm, Wednesday 9:30 am until time of departure. The funeral mass will be celebrated at St-Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Shediac on Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at 10:30 am followed by a reception at the Shediac Multipurpose Center, 58 Festival St. In memory of Joe, a contribution to the CHU Dumont Foundation (Oncology or Cardiology) would be appreciated. www.frenettefuneralhome.com
