Betty Parsons

Born In: Kingston, Ontario, Canada

Passed in: Glace Bay, Canada
Passed on: February 9th, 2014

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Betty Marie Parsons.
Betty passed away at home on Sunday, Feb. 9, 2014, with her loving family at her side.
Born in Kingston, Ont., she was the daughter of the late Elizabeth (Parsons) and Gordon Donahue and was a lifelong member of the Salvation Army Glace Bay Citadel.
Betty worked at several jobs throughout her life starting at the age of 13 and retired from the dietary department of the old Glace Bay General Hospital. She will be fondly remembered as a loving mom to her five children. She cared dearly for her children, always cooking, baking, cleaning and often had out five lines of clothes a day. She enjoyed camping, long drives, a good game of bingo, evenings spent with the neighbourhood women on club night, singing when her sons played their guitars and picking roses from her garden. Her children were her pride and joy and she loved them unconditionally. She will be remembered by all as a very polite lady who was always happy and smiling.
Betty will be sadly missed by her loving husband, Ron Parsons; her loving children, sons, Kevin Richards, Roy Richards, Glen Richards, all of Glace Bay; daughters, Cheryl (Jim) Davies, Halifax, and Tania MacLeod, Glace Bay. She will also be missed by her special sister, Donna Muise, Reserve Mines; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and friends.
Besides her parents, Betty was predeceased by her grandmother, Rachel Parsons who raised her as her daughter, two grandsons, Douglas and Matthew Davies and several siblings.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014, from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral service, officiated by Corps Sergeant Major Fred Courtney is Thursday morning at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel, followed by interment in St. Mary’s Anglican Church Cemetery, Glace Bay.
Memorial donations in Betty’s memory may be made to the Cape Breton Cancer Center or to the local Salvation Army Citadel.
