DELANO, JOSEPH - It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family announces the sudden death of Joseph Delano, husband of Rita (Flood) Delano of 469 Old King George Highway. He died peacefully at Miramichi Regional Hospital on Thursday, February 13th, 2014 at the age of 91. Joseph was born in Newcastle, NB. He was the son of the late Thomas Delano and Christina (A’Hearn) Delano. He will be sadly missed by, his son Jack of Fredericton, his daughters Debbie (Bill DeWolfe) of Nordin, Dawn (Chris Crant) of St. Margarets, Jo-Anne (David Gallant) of Douglasfield and Heather (Wilbert Sabine) of Lakeville Corner, NB, four grandchildren, Jonathan, Heather-Anne, Ryan and Kathleen and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his wife, Rita, his sister, Beatrice Butler and two brothers, Frederick and Lawrence. Joseph worked for Canadian National Railways for over 40 years. He married his wife Rita, in Montreal, Quebec and shortly thereafter, they returned to Newcastle where they started their family. He attended St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, was President of the Newcastle Figure Skating Club, a Board member of the Newcastle Credit union, a member of the Knight’s of Columbus and he was a long standing member of the Miramichi Senior Citizen’s Club. Joseph was a very quiet person and always put others first, lending a helping hand when needed. He loved sports, especially hockey and baseball. He also enjoyed going to watch his grandchildren play hockey, soccer and baseball. He was an avid bowler, a beautiful skater and loved anything outdoors. Bowling was one of his many pleasures, today they retired "Diesel Delano", a moniker he wore proudly. He excelled at many sports of which hockey and baseball were his favorites, a diehard New York Yankees, and Montreal Canadiens fan. Saturday nite was his, and if you did not cheer for Montreal (you can fill in the blanks guys). Always quick with a story, many were overcome with tearful laughter.
