It is with great sadness and broken hearts we announce the passing of our husband, father and brother, Francis Matlock, 56, of Scotchtown on Feb. 14, 2014 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Scotchtown, he was a son of the late Anthony 'Tony' and Mary (Morrison) Matlock. He was a member of St. Leonard's Parish, New Waterford.
Francis was a kind and loving soul who adored his family. He enjoyed watching sports and sitting on his patio on a warm summer day. In his final days he suffered much but bore it with dignity and strength.
Francis is survived by his wife, Catherine (MacKay); son, Matthew, of whom he was extremely proud; loving sister, Midge (Doug) McVicar; brother, John (Patty); sister-in-law, Jane Matlock.
Besides his parents, Francis was predeceased by his brother Tony and sister, Sheila.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral mass of celebration will be held Tuesday, Feb, 18 at 2 p.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating. Burial will be in St. Michael Cemetery with a luncheon to follow at the Knights of Columbus Hall, Plummer Avenue, New Waterford.
Donations in his memory may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.
