TRENTON – With heart filled sadness the family announces his sudden passing at home on Monday, February 17, 2014.
Wayne Charles “Oscar” Hawboldt was born on November 22, 1949 in New Glasgow to parents Burton and Mona (Trevarthan) Hawboldt.
He is preceded by his father Burton and is survived by his mother, Mona, of Trenton; brother, Robert (Sharon); sister, Ann Gerrior (Rob Arbuckle); brother, Burton (Rhonda), all of Pictou Landing; nieces: Shawna (Jodi Paget), Melissa (Warren,) Kristian (Jake), Leeanne (Jamie), Jillian (Sean); nephews: Nathan (Sangvath), Robert (Pam); great-niece, Graysen; great-nephews, Kemper and William; chosen brother and sister, Alan and Norma MacDougall; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Wayne “Oscar” was a graduate of St. Francis Xavier University and spent his working career at Trenton Works in the Quality Control Department until his retirement. Wayne was a staunch supporter of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 29 for the last 41 years. He worked tirelessly as a Sports Rep for 36 years, a Zone Rep for the past 20 years and Bar Chair for 20 years. He was instrumental in overseeing darts, cards (as well as participating competitively in both) and oversaw all tasks that had to be completed at the branch. Wayne held all positions on the Executive as well as President in 2011 and 2012 and was currently in Position of Past President and Membership Chair. In Wayne’s younger years he was involved in fast ball as a player and as management. He was an avid Toronto Maple Leaf and New York Yankee fan.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Thursday, February 20 at R.H. Porter Funeral Home, on High Street, Trenton. Funeral service will be held on Friday, February 21, at 2 p.m. at First United Church, Trenton, with Mr. Fergie MacKay officiating.
Family flowers only by request. Donations can be made in Wayne’s memory to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 29 or to a charity of your choice.
