WRIGHT, JAMES "JIM" - 1934 - 2014 - James "Jim" Phillip Wright, 79, of Stoney Creek, NB, husband of the late of Shirley Marguerite (Dickson) Wright, passed away after a brief illness on February 19th, 2014 at the Dr. Georges L. Dumont Hospital. He was born in Toronto, Ontario on March 20th, 1934, the son of the late James Douglas Wright and Mary Gertrude England. He moved to Stoney Creek, NB with his parents at a young age. With the death of his own mother, he spent his youth in the care of his aunt and uncle, George Wright and Muriel Ida (Steeves) Wright. After completing his early schooling in Moncton, Dad continued his studies in Business at Acadia University and McGill University. Upon his return to Moncton, he met our Mother, and they were married in 1955. They settled at Goose Bay/ Happy Valley NFLD where dad worked for the American Air Force and Transport Canada on the Goose Bay Air Force Base until 1974 when the family moved to Moncton, NB. He retired from Transport Canada in 1989, and he and our Mother enjoyed their retirement years together in Moncton and Tucson, Arizona. In his younger years, Dad coached his sons in baseball and hockey, enjoyed bowling and spending nights playing cards and dragging the clan off camping. He loved to travel, and was an avid reader, and during his retirement, developed a love of shuffleboard. A Boston Bruins and New England Patriots fan, Dad loved March Madness College Basketball and faithfully cheered for the Arizona Wildcats. He spent many hours cultivating his vegetable garden and tending to his beloved raspberry patch each spring and summer on the family farm in Stoney Creek.
He is survived by his children, James (Joanne) of Unionville, ON, Phillip (June Young) of Dartmouth, NS, son-in-law, Ricky Ritchie of Stoney Creek, NB, Gail (Liane Landry) of Grande Digue, NB, Kathleen Chapman (Dale) of Riverview, NB, Douglas of Moncton, NB; his grandchildren, Heather Carson (Trevor) of Moncton, NB, Sarah Wright of Guelph, ON, Jessica Wright of Toronto, ON, Patrick and Lukas Chapman of Riverview, NB. Dad also has cousins scattered throughout Canada and the United States. Besides his parents and his wife, Marguerite, he was predeceased by his beloved daughter, Deborah Anne (Ritchie) and grandson, Robert Franklin Ritchie.
There will be a Celebration of Dad's Life on Saturday, February 22nd, 2014 at 1:00pm at St. George's Anglican Church in Moncton, NB, Reverend Chris Van Buskirk officiating. A reception will follow in the Church Hall. Interment of the ashes will take place at a later date at Grey's Island Cemetery. Donations to the New Brunswick Public Libraries Foundation, the St. George's Anglican Roof Fund in Dad's name or a donation to the memorial of the donor's choice may be made.
