
William Benjamin Saunders
SAUNDERS, WILLIAM BENJAMIN “BEN” - He was born in Saint John, NB and was the son of the late Helen and Harry Saunders. May 1, 1941 to February 23, 2014, it's with a heavy heart we announce the passing of Dad (Ben to his friends) (Billy to his sisters) (Pappy to his grandchildren and great grandsons). He lived for his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his children Jacqueline (Wayne) Gogan, Billy (Rhonda) Saunders of Ontario, Rob (Tracey) Saunders, his grandchildren whom he adored; Brett, Tyler, Tori and Taylor and great grandsons Layton and Tate, his sisters Barb (Ray) Wasson, Gail Mabey, Norah Mawhinney (Mike Cormier), Nancy Saunders and several nieces and nephews and lifelong friends Ed and Carol Quinn. He was awarded a medal for Father of the Year in 1977 by Her Majesty the Queen. He worked at Rothesay Paper for 32 years as a Millwright. He was a member of Canadian Paper-workers Union 601 and member of Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 69. Ben spent years travelling with his son Bill and weekends at the trailer with Rob. Pappy’s favorite pastimes were watching Brett and Tyler play hockey, baseball, lacrosse and football, as well as Coffee Club on Fridays with the guys, golfing at Welsford with his buddies and spending time with Wayne. He was a lifetime follower of the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Rangers. He raised us, lived for us and loved us...
Resting at Fitzpatrick’s Funeral Home, 100 Waterloo Street (634-1965) with visiting on Wednesday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00pm. A Funeral Service will be celebrated on Thursday February 27, 2014 at 11:00am in the Chapel followed by cremation and burial at a later date.
