It is with great sadness that we the family announce the sudden passing of our loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend on Friday, Feb. 21, 2014, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Born in Florence, Nov. 25, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Ethel (Hall) Keeling.
She was married to the late John Edmund 'Eddie' Stapleton and was a faithful member of St. Joseph Church in Bras d’Or.
Ma was a homemaker for her family as well as their family and friends. She loved to cook and bake for the many gatherings at her home. She was an avid card player in her community and with anyone who dare challenge her. She loved a visit from family and friends, especially Tuesday night sewing bee where a pot of tea and a square was always waiting.
Mary was an especially good listener and had a gift for making people feel at home. She did many puzzles every day and never missed an episode of The Young and the Restless and loved her baseball games. Ma took great pride in her surroundings and loved spending time outdoors keeping up her flowers, plants and lawn. She led a busy life and
anything we could do, she could do better.
Left to mourn are her five sons, Bryan (Ann Marie), Shane (Louisa), Eddie (Erin), Mark, William R. 'Bill' (Janice); nine daughters, Charmaine (Mike Greenlaw), Maura (Brian Brady), Verna (Colin Harrison), Lucy (Leo Brown), Corrie, Judy (Stephen Dolhanty), Paula (Glenn Edmunds), Suzanne, Starr (Patrick Wilkie) as well as 28 grandchildren and 18
great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Patrick; sisters, Edna (William MacDonald), Helen (Ralph McKinnon), Anne Marie (Frank MacCormick) and sisters-in-law, Sis Vickers and Leora Keeling.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her loving husband Eddie as well as brothers, Sam and Ralph (in infancy).
There will be no visitiation. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph Church, Bras d’Or, on Wednesday, Feb. 26 at 2 p.m. with Fr. Jake Andrea officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.
