Michel S.  Morris

Morris, Michel S. – 77, of Parrsboro passed away Monday, February 17, 2014 at Gables Lodge, Amherst with family by his side. Born in Diligent River, he was a son of the late Vaughn and Flora (Chandler) Morris. Early in his life, he worked in the woods prior to joining the military in 1958. Mike was first posted to CFB, Gagetown, then Germany (two postings), Petawawa, Ont., Calgary ending his military career back in Gagetown in 1979. He served two peacekeeping missions in Egypt and Cyprus. Following his retirement, he enjoyed gardening and “tinkering” in his garage. He was an active and long serving member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #45, Parrsboro. He also worked as a janitor for the legion for many years. He is survived by his daughters, Linda Morris (David Bemrose), Regina, Sask.; Janet Hiltz (Sheldon), Parrsboro; Michele Morris (Thearon Allen), Parrsboro; sisters, Barbara O’Laney, Amherst; Esther Boyd (Jack), Nappan; Isabelle Brown (Philip), Athol; brothers, St. Claire (Judi) and Conrad (Gerry), all of Peterborough, Ont.; Boyd (Jeannette), Brookdale; 8 grandchildren, Madeline, Emma and Samuel Bemrose; Michael M. Forbes, Dylan Hiltz; Candice Lake, Cassandra and Colton Morris; numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Maureen; brothers, Morley, Vaughn in infancy. Funeral will be held 2 p.m. on Thursday [February 20, 2014] at Smith’s Funeral Home, Parrsboro, Rev. Tory Byrne officiating.
