Family and friends of John Frederick Bailey wish to share news of his passing at the age of 86, on Monday, March 3, 2014, at the Northside General Hospital.
Born and raised in Sydney Mines, John F., as he was well known, was the son of the late Frederick and Lucy Bailey. He was a member of Holy Family parish in Sydney Mines.
John was a very kind, gentle and caring person and well known for his wit. John F., in his earlier years, was employed with the British Canadian Co-op, and then operated his own men’s clothing store in Sydney Mines. He was very active in his community throughout his life, serving on the Sydney Mines Town Council, a member of the William B. MacLeod 4th Degree Council, as well as life member of the Santa Maria Council 2024, and past Grand Knight, past president of the Kiwanis Club of Ceilidh Golden K. John F. was also a board member of Kinsmen Day Care, Princess Credit Union, and Northside Homemakers Services Society.
He leaves behind to mourn his wife Barbara; sisters, Ann (Howard) and Renelda (Howard); brothers, David and Arthur (Yvonne); stepchildren, Patricia (Lorne) Quinn, Bras d’Or, Ellen Dunn, Halifax, Monica (Dan) Lamothe, Rimouski, Que., Ann (John) Ling, Sydney, Bill (Cathy) Dunn, Dartmouth, Norma Benac (Monty), North Sydney, Sharon (Larry) Leonard, Winnipeg, Man., and Lorna (Kevin) Jardine, North Sydney; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. John also leaves behind a special person, Mary Viva.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Margaret Stubbert, and sisters, Rose Marie and Agnes.
There will be no visitation. The funeral mass will be held on Thursday, March 6, 2014, at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Church, Sydney Mines, with Fr. Thomas John officiating. A reception will take place in the parish hall, following the service.
Family flowers only please. Donations in John’s memory may be made to a charity of choice.
