It is with great sadness, that we announce the passing of our mom, Joan Mildred MacDonald. After a long battle with cancer, Mom passed away on Thursday, March 6, 2014 at the Glace Bay Hospital with her loving family by her side.
Joan’s journey on earth began in River Hebert, N.S. on September 7, 1934. She was the daughter of the late Garvin and Helen (Betts) Wolfe.
Mom was a homemaker. She first lived in Port Morien and later moved to a farm in Broughton. Joan enjoyed knitting mittens and socks for her grandchildren, crocheting, doing jig-saw puzzles with her sister Eva, and going to bingo on Saturdays at the fire hall. She will always be remembered for her kind and generous nature. Mom loved to laugh and touched all those who knew her.
Joan was the beloved wife of the late, Clarence 'Ches' MacDonald for 57 years, she was a loving sister to Eva MacIntosh and a loving mother to her sons and daughters, Stuart (Janet), Rita (John) Koole, Kenneth (Kay), David (Lin), Keith (Paddy), Brian (Angie) and Barbara; Joan will be sadly missed by her 12 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband Ches, Joan was predeceased by her brother, Lorne.
Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral service, officiated by Rev. Lydia E. MacKinnon will be held in the funeral home chapel on Monday, March 10, 2014 at 11 a.m. All are invited to join the family at a reception at the Birch Grove Fire Hall following funeral service.
At this time we would like to thank Dr. Gordon Spencer, Dr. Ron MacCormack and the nurses on 3 east at the Glace Bay Hospital.
As an expression of sympathy for Joan, memorial donations in her memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of one’s choice.
