It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband and father, Harvey Steele, on Monday, March 10, 2014, in his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Harvey was born on Oct. 9, 1956, at Harbour View Hospital in Sydney Mines. He was the son of Rose (Steele) MacKinnon and the late Alexander Steele.
Harvey is survived by his wife of 35 years, Karen (Roland) Steele and by his three daughters, Crystal (Robert) Graves, Carrie (Johnathan) Gould and Danielle (Scott) Mennie, and his beloved granddaughter, Anna (Banana) Mennie. Harvey is also survived by his siblings, Marlene (Ralph) Tremblett, Brenda (Daryl) Pyke, and Glen Steele.
Harvey was predeceased by his father Alexander Steele and his stepfather Hector MacKinnon.
Harvey was an employee of Devco Prince Mine for 21 years and Marine Atlantic for 10 years. He was the strong silent type who would do anything for anyone and never expect anything in return. Harvey touched so many with his soft and humble character. He was an honest man with a big heart.

Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A celebration of his life will take place on Thursday, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Anne Church, Alder Point, with Fr. Peter McLeod officiating. A reception to follow in St. Joseph's parish hall, Bras d'Or.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Red Cross or Lung Association.
Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com.
“A heart of Gold stopped beating, two shining eyes at rest.
God broke our hearts to prove, he only takes the best.”
