Arthur "Lloyd" Carver

CARVER, REVEREND ARTHUR “LLOYD” Reverend Arthur “Lloyd” Carver of St. Thomas, ON passed away peacefully following a very brief illness at the St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital on February 17, 2014. Lloyd was born in Saint John, NB on December 13, 1920. He is predeceased by his parents, Arthur William and Alice (Lee) Carver, his only sibling, Robert Vernon and his eldest grandson. He is survived by his wife Helena (Borden) of sixty seven years and his five children, Fred, Elizabeth Ann, Michael, Bryan and James as well as twelve wonderful grandchildren and eight adorable great-grandchildren. Following graduation from Saint John High School, Lloyd enlisted in the Canadian Army and served for eight years both in Canada and Overseas, following which he spent many years in the Reserves. He spent many years working with youth - Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent, Clubs, Little League Baseball and Adviser for the Order of DeMolay. Following study at the University of New Brunswick and Pine Hill Divinity Hall he was ordained into the Ministry of the United Church of Canada, serving Congregations in Long Reach Charge, Norton-Apohaqui Charge and Exmouth St. in New Brunswick and St. Andrew’s in St. Thomas, ON. Following retirement, he served numerous congregations on an interim basis. He was a fifty year member of St. John’s Lodge #2 of the Free and Accepted Masons of the Grand Lodge of Canada in Saint John and served one term as the Grand Chaplain for New Brunswick, later transferring to St. David’s Lodge #302 in St. Thomas. During his time in St. Thomas, he served for many years as Chaplain of the St. Thomas District. He was also a member for over thirty years of the Order of The Eastern Star where he served his Chapter as Worthy Patron thirteen times. In addition he served the Grand Chapter of Ontario as a member of the Estarl Committee for two terms. He was an Honorary Member of the Canadian Supreme Council of the Order of DeMolay.
Following cremation, a public memorial service was held at St. Andrew’s United Church in St. Thomas, ON on February 19.
