Jim died at home on Friday, March 14, 2014.
Born in Glace Bay, he was a son of the late James and Mary (Murphy) Murphy.
Jim moved to Port Hawkesbury in 1960 to work at the Pulp Mill where he worked as an electrician until his retirement in 1992. He was a retired Deputy Chief of the Port Hawkesbury Volunteer Fire Department and a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Br. 43, Port Hawkesbury.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Shelia (Campbell) Murphy; daughters, Cathy (Donald) MacDonald, Port Hawkesbury; Tina (Kevin) MacMaster, Troy; sons, Steven (Bernadette), Windsor, Ont.; Jimmie (Gisele), Barrie, Ont.; John (Rose), Havre Boucher; Kevin (Sherry), Fort St. John, BC; Bernard Terrance, North Sydney; Glen, Port Hawkesbury; sisters, Sister Mary Murphy, Bethany, Antigonish; Lucy Gregory, Mississauga, Ont.; 20 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Jim will also be missed by Sharon, Madonna, and Leanne, many nieces and nephews and extended family members.
Jim was predeceased by his parents, James and Mary Murphy; brothers, Bernard, John, Colin, Dave, William; sisters, Alice, Elizabeth, Theresa, Agatha and Marie in infancy.
Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Tuesday; with a Fire Department Service at 6:30 p.m.; A vigil service at 7:15 p.m., all in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Funeral mass will be 10 a.m. Wednesday from St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Port Hawkesbury with Father Conrad Edwards officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery.
Memorial donations in memory of Jim may be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia, St. Joseph Parish or a charity of your choice.
