It is with sadness and fond memories that the family of the late Susannah Pennell would like to inform those who knew her of her passing on the 24th of April, 2014 at the age of 90. She was the last surviving member of the family of Julia Barnes and husband, William Hynes. She was born on Wood’s Island and moved to Lark Harbour during resettlement and lived happily there with her husband, Jim, for many years. She is survived by a large number of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, James Pennell; her brother, William and his wife, Dorothy; her sister, Angelina Brown and her husband, Herbert; and her brother, John Sam Pennell and his wife, Elizabeth. Friends and family may visit Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 218 Curling Street, Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and St. James Anglican Church, Lark Harbour on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to Noon, from where the funeral service will take place at 2:00 p.m., Rev. Nelson Chatman officiating, with interment to follow in the Anglican Cemetery, Lark Harbour. Donations are accepted and may be made to St. James Anglican Church, Lark Harbour, in her honour. The family of the late Susannah Pennell would like to thank the people who helped her during her lifetime. She lived a quiet life in Little Port, surrounded by many relatives and friends who knew her as Aunt Susie. The people of Little Port and Lark Harbour surrounded both of them with friendship and the love of a small community and looked after her for many years after her husband passed away. Thank you to the people of Little Port and Lark Harbour for your every gesture of kindness with a special thank you to Paul & Jennifer Pennell, Sheila & the late Lloyd Jones, Joe & Margaret Hynes and Wayne & Julia Youden. To the people of the Long Term Care Unit of Western Memorial Hospital, a special thank you for your wonderful care to make her last years so comfortable.
