MELANSON, MARIE LINA - It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Marie Lina (Wedge) Melanson which occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Thursday, April 24th, 2014. Born 1928 in Bathurst, NB, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Bertin) Wedge. Marie worked as Registrar of Deeds for the Province of New Brunswick for over 20 years before retiring in 1992. After retirement, Marie spent many winters in Florida. She was the President of Beaconsfield Rubies Senior Club. She enjoyed going to multiple friends homes for card parties and to the card party on Friday evenings in Lorneville. Marie will be greatly missed by her sons John (Rhonda) of PEI, Daniel (Sandra) of Quispamsis, Philip and Robert both of Saint John; daughters Jane Melanson of Saint John, Catherine Miller (Paul) of Saint John; sisters Judith Buchanan (David) of Rothesay, Alice Janowski of New Jersey; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Besides her parents, Marie was predeceased by her husband John and daughter Anne Marie.
Arrangements are under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424). Following cremation, visitation will be held on Sunday, April 27th from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A memorial service service will take place from the Fundy Funeral Home chapel on Monday, April 28th at 10 a.m. followed by an interment at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. The family would appreciate donations be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, Bobby’s Hospice, or the charity of the donor’s choice.
