Isabelle Baskin
BASKIN, ISABELLE JOSEPHENE - Isabelle Josephene (Noble) Baskin passed away peacefully, at the age of 83, at Pine Grove Nursing Home, Fredericton, NB, on April 26th, 2014 surrounded by her loving family. Born in 1930 to the late Donald B. Noble and Thelma J. (Phillips) Noble, Isabelle grew up in the rural community of Rusagonis in Southern New Brunswick with her older brother, the late William A. Noble, and younger brother, the late Donald S. Noble. As much at home on a tractor as she was studying, Isabelle was determined to further her education and make a difference in the post war years. She attended both high school and Teacher’s College in Fredericton, going on to teach in Fredericton, Fredericton Junction, and Tracy. After marrying RCMP Officer, the late William H. Baskin in 1956, they were stationed in Bathurst, Campbellton, Port Elgin, Fredericton, and Newcastle, New Brunswick; as well as Yarmouth and Halifax, Nova Scotia. In later years, Isabelle and Bill also lived part of each year in their “home away from home” in the Crosswinds Park, St. Petersburg, Florida. Wherever she ventured, she maintained dear and lifelong friendships, rich with fond memories. A dedicated family woman, Isabelle stayed home to rear the couple’s only child while assisting her husband in operating the one-man RCMP detachments to which they were stationed. In her late 40s, Isabelle resumed her professional endeavors, pursuing certification as a book-keeper. Working long hours while caring for her husband during the early years of his protracted illness, Isabelle set an indelible example of courage, perseverance, grace and prayerful joy for her daughter and eventually her granddaughters. Retiring to her childhood home of Rusagonis, she was widowed in 1991. She remained in Rusagonis, close to her extended family, until 2012 when ill health prompted her to move to Terraces-on-Cliff in Fredericton. In recent months, with her health deteriorating, Isabelle moved to Pine Grove Nursing Home until her passing. Isabelle is survived by her daughter, Donna-Lynn Baskin of Winnipeg, MB; granddaughters, Brenegan-Marie Baskin of Toronto, ON and Meredith-Isabelle Baskin of Halifax, NS; sister-in-law, Betty (Dore) Noble; nephews and nieces, Terry and Lois Noble, Dale and Debbie Noble, Timmy and Cheryl Noble, and Dawn-Marie and Peter Buck; brother and sister-in-law, Denis and Avita Baskin of Belleville, ON; niece, Debbie Bryla and nephew, Brent Baskin as well as several great nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be held at the Rusagonis Baptist Church on Tuesday, April 29th, 2014 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A funeral service will be held at the Rusagonis Baptist Church on Wednesday, April 30th, 2014 at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow at the Rusagonis Baptist Cemetery, where her body will rest with that of her husband and family while her soul finds rest and peace in the arms of our Lord. Her family requests that donations, in lieu of flowers, be made to the RCMP Veteran’s Association, the Rusagonis Baptist Church Canopy Fund, the Oromocto Public Hospital Foundation, or the Siloam Mission (www.siloam.ca).
