As we approach the first anniversary of “Donnie’s” death, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to those individuals who supported Donnie during his illness and subsequent passing. In particular, we would like to acknowledge his close friends and former colleagues who frequently visited Donnie in the hospital and at home. To the staff and students of Tompkins Elementary School a sincere thank you for the honor guard at the funeral. Donnie often remarked it was a privilege having been Principal of such a wonderful school and he firmly believed he had the “best staff” and the “best students”. To Dr. Carol Boutilier, and the nursing staff of 3 south and 3 west of Glace Bay Hospital, thank you. The kindness and respect you shown to Donnie during his illness will forever be remembered. To the doctors and nurses of the Palliative Care Service, in particular, Dr. John Ritter and Cathie Lloyd, thank you. To the volunteers of the Palliative Care Service, thank you. To Debbie Boutilier of the VON, thank you. To the community of Reserve, thank you, for the kindness and respect you extended to him during his illness and at his funeral. To Father Daniel Boudreau, thank you, for celebrating his life and capturing so wonderfully the very essence of what Donnie valued and represented. To the Eucharistic ministers, the Choir and members of the CWL of St. Joseph’s, thank you. To Morgan Bettens, Jacqueline Doucette, Cecil Clarke and his godchildren Hunter Bettens and Ashley Timmerman thank you for participating in the celebration of Donnie’s life. To Curry’s Funeral Home, thank you, for your professionalism. To Pallbearers Gerry Murphy, Jackie Roach, David Nearing, Greg Gouthro, Mark Bettens, and Hunter Bettens, thank you. To caregivers Mille and Margaret, thank you. Finally, to Donnie’s “Aunt Aggie” who welcomed Donnie in her home and who lovingly cared for him throughout his life and in his final days, please know he loved you and appreciated everything you did for him.
