Sidney James "Sid" Clark - 98, of Lower Canard, Kings County, passed away Sunday, April 27, 2014 in Evergreen Home for Special Care, Kentville. Born in Halifax and a survivor of the Halifax Explosion, he was a son of the late John and Mary (MacDonald) Clark. Sid was a well-known Halifax police officer, where he was a part-time, off-season special police officer before becoming full-time in 1940. He played professional hockey for the North Sydney Monarchs in the late 1930's and continued to play semi-pro hockey in the 1940's, 1950's and 1960's in numerous leagues in Nova Scotia. He was very active in Halifax Minor Hockey and coached QE High School Hockey for many years. He was an avid golfer and a long-time member of Ashburn Golf Club, Halifax and KenWo Golf Club, New Minas. He loved bowling and belonged to leagues in Halifax and particularly enjoyed the Wednesday afternoon Valley Senior League at Fairlanes in New Minas. He retired in 1976 to his home in Lower Canard. He is survived by a son, Terry, New Minas; a granddaughter, Sherrie and husband, Byron Randell; great grandsons, Caleb, Jacob and Ethan; numerous nieces and nephews in Nova Scotia and the Boston area of Massachusetts. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Audrey Lusher; three sisters, Blanch, Alice and Mary "Dolly"; four brothers, John "Buster", Harry, Walter and Clyde. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation or funeral service, by request. Donations in memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
