ALTMAN
John Thomas (Tom) Altman of Moose Jaw and formerly of Mortlach was born February 23, 1930 at the Tait farm south of Parkbeg, passed away April 27, 2014 at the age of 84. Tom was the fourth child born to Henry and Virginia Altman. Right out of high school Tom starting farming in the Edgehill district in 1949 by renting the Bill Pender quarter section. Tom married Gladys Winkler, daughter of John and Alice Winkler of Parkbeg, October 9, 1954. Tom was a very diverse handyman and took great pride in his farm and family. He was a hard worker and highly organized. He took flying lessons in the 70’s and bought himself an airplane. Tom spent a lot of his winters at the old curling rink in Mortlach and enjoyed travelling with Gladys, downhill skiing, golfing, and socializing with his many friends and family. Tom was cherished and will be missed greatly by his loving wife of 60 years Gladys; daughters Wendy (Jack), Joanne (Marlow), Judy (Colin), and son Scott (Danaye); sisters Betty (Art), and June (Don); brother-in-law Jim (Dorothy), and sister-in-law Gail; also eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Tom is predeceased by his sister Helen, brother Paul, and grandson Justin. The Celebration of Tom’s life will be held at W.J.Jones & Son Chapel on Friday May 2, 2014 at 2:00 pm. Della Ferguson will officiate. Memorialization will take place at Prairie Memorial Columbarium. Memorial donations to Pioneers Lodge, 1000 Albert St., Moose Jaw, S6H 2Y2, would be appreciated.
