Ronald ‘Ronnie’ Norman McNeil age 79 of Glace Bay passed away Thursday, May 1, 2014 at his residence.
Born in Dominion, Ronnie was the son of the late Michael and Mary Jane (Campbell) McNeil.
Ronnie was employed at the Fortress of Louisbourg and the Town of Glace Bay. He was a member of St. Anne’s Church. Ronnie enjoyed gardening, playing bingo, buying lottery tickets, driving his scooter and travelling out west to see his boys. He was a very sociable man who had a great sense of humour.
Ronnie is survived by his wife of 56 years Vivian (Brewer) McNeil; two daughters, Brenda (Hecky) McDonald, Glace Bay, Joan, Sydney; three sons, Ronald (Jeannie), Derrick (Eunice), both of Alberta, Stephen (Ruby) McNeil, British Columbia.
Also surviving is Ronnie’s sister, Margaret O’Quinn, Newfoundland and his brother, Donald McNeil, Dominion. Ronnie will be sadly missed by his 12 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his two brothers, Michael, Earl; three sisters, Mary, Evelyn and Agnes Poirier and in-laws, Vivian and Percy Brewer.
Visitation will be held Monday night from 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Saint Anne’s Church followed by a reception in the church foyer. Cremation will follow with interment in Forest Haven Cemetery at a later date.
As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the An Cala Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
