Mary 'Renee' MacTavish died peacefully at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by family at the age of 81.
Born in North Sydney to Charles and Irene Coleman.
She is survived by Edgar, her devoted husband of 60 years; daughter, Wendy, Dartmouth; son, Stuart, Wolfville; brother, John, North Sydney; in-laws, Thelma and Jim MacGregor, Pasendena, California and Bea MacTavish, Ottawa, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Renee was predeceased by her parents and sister, Marjorie.
Calvary Baptist Church played an important part in her formative years. Renee had on-screen roles in the early days on live television in Sydney. For many years, she worked in the fashion industry and was always known for her sense of style and elegance.
The family would like to acknowledge the care and compassion of her family physician, Dr. Liam Orrell and of Dr. Chris Seamone and team at the Nova Scotia Eye Centre. In her later years, a wonderful support network including Sheldon Wadman, Steve Anderson, Dieter and Freda Thelen, Judy Mercer, plus other thoughtful friends and neighbors contributed mightily to Renee’s quality of life.
There will be no visitation or service. Interment will take place at a later date in Oakfield Cemetery.
No flowers by request. Memorials may be made to the Nova Scotia Eye Care Centre through the QEII Foundation and please consider the organ donation endorsement on your health card.
