BASTARACHE, VERNA B. DICARLO (TAPLEY) - Verna B. DiCarlo (Tapley) Bastarache, wife of Ivan Bastarache, loving mother of Joanne (David) McNeill and Nick (Rita) passed away peacefully at the Chalmer’s Regional Hospital on Thursday, May 8th, 2014 with her family by her side at 90 years. Survived by step-sons, Daryl and Shawn (Melissa); very proud nanny of grandchildren, Lonnie, Lance, Lucas, Marissa, Nathan and Jesse; sister, Barbara Long; sisters-in-law, Laura Savoy, Peggy DiCarlo and Irene DiCarlo; also very special and much loved neice, Sandra (Mike) Palangio. Verna was a member of the United Church of Canada and held office in the church as a session member, Stewart Trustee and was charter member of U.C.W. She served on several committees including presbytery member for the United Church. She was a long time member of The Chipman Ladies Liberal Club, in which she served several offices. Verna was a long time member of the Provincial Liberal Ladies Club, serving one term as president. She was a charter member of the Chipman Curling Club, serving as treasurer, and also served on the Chipman Ladies Curling Organization in different offices. Predeceased by her parents, John Tapley and Violet McLean; first husband, Murray DiCarlo; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Family will receive comfort at the Chipman Funeral Home Ltd. (339-6612) on Monday, May 12th, 2014 from 2 to 4 & 7 to 9pm. Family and friends are invited to a celebration of Verna’s life at the Chipman United Church on Tuesday, May 13th, 2014 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Betty-Jean Friedman officiating. In Lieu of flowers, Verna requested donations be made to the Chipman United Church Building Fund and that would be greatly appreciated by the family.
