It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Lucy Elizabeth Copan, 78, of New Waterford on May 10, 2014 at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital.
Born in New Waterford, she was a daughter of the late John and Veronica (MacDougall) Leadbeater.
Lucy was very dedicated to her family. She was an avid bowler who also enjoyed a good game of cards and dancing. Lucy took great pleasure in watching ball games in Scotchtown or being in Inverness singing songs around the bonfire with her family and friends.
Lucy was a former member of the Scotchtown Fire Hall Ladies Auxiliary. In earlier years, she was employed at the G.I. Plant in Sydney and with Basil and Lorraine on Landry Avenue.
Surviving are daughters, Sherry (Lorne), Arlene (Brian), both of Kitchener, Ont; son, Clayton, Alberta; brothers Alex 'Sugars', Angus Brian 'Dugie', both of New Waterford, Reggie, Sydney; sisters, Linda Conrad, Sydney, Mary Saraceno, New Waterford; grandchildren, Matthew Louis Copan, Ronald Gerard Copan, Willie Shane Detienne, Joshua Lorne Fiore, Jordan Louis Fiore, Christopher Michael MacNeil, Hillary Elizabeth Copan; great-grandchildren, Parker Willis Detienne, Jaxxon Vincent Michael MacNeil; several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Lucy was predeceased by her husband, Louie, brothers, John 'Tucker', Allie, Malcolm 'Baldy' and a special grandson, an angel, Ryan Kevin George Copan.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral mass of celebration will be held Tuesday, May 13 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Fr. Norman MacPhee officiating. Burial will be in St. Michael Cemetery, River Ryan, with a luncheon to follow at the Army, Navy, Airforce, Unit 217, New Waterford.
