William 'Billy' Dawe

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of William Francis Dawe, 71, of Baddeck, and formerly of Sydney Mines, on Friday, May 2, 2014, after a brief illness.
Born in Sydney Mines on Sept. 28, 1942, he was the son of the late Bernard J. and Ella (Reid) Dawe. He was a long time active member of the Royal Canadian Legion. He served in the Canadian Army and the 2nd Battalion Nova Scotia Highlanders, retiring as a Sergeant. He was a former coal miner, and also a carpenter.
He is survived by his daughters, Heather Burt, Beverly Hobson and Chrissy Morrison and sons, William and Ricky and their children, all of Ontario. He also leaves behind his companion, Sharon Vickers; sisters, Shirley Warhuus and Sandra Osmond and brothers, Clarence and Robert Brian.
Besides his parents, Billy was predeceased by a sister, Ruth Rideout and brothers, Bernie Jr. and Sheldon.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of J. M. Jobes Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2014, at 2 p.m. in Carman United Church, Clyde Avenue, Sydney Mines, with Rev. Nick Phillips officiating.
