Hettie Velma Hardy (Pelley)

Hettie Velma Hardy (Pelley) R.N., (S.A. Grace Hospital, 1953), aged 81 originally of Hant's Harbour, and now of St. John's passed peacefully away May 18, 2014. Wife of Eric Hardy (58 years), Mother of Donna (Dr. Chris Cox), and Chris (Marlayne Smith), Sister to Robert Pelley (Fran) and grandmother to Mark, Matthew, Katie, and Joel; Sister In Law, Cousin, Aunt, Great Aunt and Great-Great Aunt to numerous nieces, nephews; and special friend and neighbor to those in the communities in which she lived, Port Aux Basques, Gander, White Point Labrador, Corner Brook, Florida, St. John's. She is predeceased by her parents Annie and Captain Victor John Pelley and sister, Hilda (Selby Vivian). The family will be holding visitation at Barrett's Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Ave on Sunday, May 25 from 2pm to 4pm & 7pm to 9pm. The funeral ceremony will take place Monday, May 26, 2014 at St. Mary's Anglican Church, Craigmillar Ave. at 2 pm. Followed by Inurnment at St. Peter's Cemetery in Upper Gullies. A memorial celebration will also be held in Hant's Harbour, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a nursing award will be established in her honour at Memorial University. A mother to many, from children to grandchildren, extended family, and those in her community. A nurse who brought many into this world and looked after many others. Community minded person involved in the Sea Side Seniors Club, Hant's Harbour Willow Tree Heritage Society, United Church Women Local in Hant's Harbour, and St. Mary's Anglican Church, St. Johns. A strong, thoughtful and giving woman whose welcome mat was always out for family, friends, neighbors and strangers alike. We mourn her passing and celebrate her life.
