Marie Keirstead
KEIRSTEAD, MARIE - Marie Beatrice Keirstead passed away peacefully with her family by her side on May 18, 2014 at Saint John Regional Hospital. Born on November 14, 1938 in Saint John, she was a daughter of the late Wendell and Helen (MacAlpine) Lacey. In 1956 Marie graduated from Gagetown Grammar School. In 1959 she graduated from the Saint John General Hospital School of Nursing and later trained as an operating room nurse, working in Campbellton and at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital from where she retired. She was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #4, for 39 years. She had many hobbies which included sewing and needle work. She loved to cook, read and enjoyed trailering and snowmobiling. Marie also enjoyed the many family gatherings, which leave us with the fondest of memories. Surviving are her children, Susan Leigh, Australia; Peter Keirstead, Toronto; brothers, Lloyd Lacey (Janet), Alberta; George Blair (Marcia), St. Stephen; sister, Audrey Hand (Frank), Rothesay; Joan Cooper (Harry) Garnett Settlement. Besides her parents she was also predeceased by her husband, John G. "Jack" Keirstead and brother, Karl Lacey. The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors of the Dialysis Unit, 3CN and the Palliative Care team for their care and compassion.
Arrangements are under the direction and care of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424). There will be no visitation. The Funeral Service will be held from Brenan’s Chapel on Friday, May 23, 2014 at 10:00 am. The Graveside Service will be held in Upper Hampstead Cemetery, Upper Hampstead Road, on Friday, May 23, 2014, at 3:00 PM. For those who wish, remembrances to the Kidney Foundation, Upper Hampstead Cemetery, Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of one's choice would be appreciated by the family.
