BURCHILL, FRED S. - It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Fred S. Burchill, 77, of Moncton, with his loving family at his side, at The Dr. Georges-L. Dumont University Hospital Centre on Friday, May 30, 2014, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born in Saint John, he was the son of the late Francis (Frank) and Gertrude (MacDougall), Burchill. Fred was a former electrician with CNR and former employee of Centennial Office Equipment and NB School District #2. He was a member of St. Augustine’s Roman Catholic Church. Fred was a member of the Moncton Lions Club for over 30 years. During his many years in Lions, he served as President, Treasurer, Secretary and on various committees, including Diabetes and Scholarships. He was “Lion of the Year” several times and was presented with the prestigious “Melvin Jones Award” and given a Life Membership in the Lions Foundation of Canada. His hobbies included gardening, playing and watching curling, working on the computer, playing crib and solitaire and socializing with his friends; but first and foremost was spending precious time with his family, especially his granddaughters. Fred will be sadly missed by his loving wife of over 52 years, Lola (Lacasse) Burchill; precious children, Jocelyn Courage (Darrell) of Bedford, NS and Steve (Sonia) of Brampton, ON; cherished grandchildren, Julianna, Marianna, Meaghan, Erin and Kaitlyn; sisters, Mildred LeBlanc (Ron) of Moncton and Bernadette Bastarache of Saint John; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Fred was predeceased by six brothers and six sisters.
Visitation at Fergusons Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (858-1995) on Wednesday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm. Funeral Mass at St. Augustine’s Roman Catholic Church (Dominion St. and Mountain Rd.) on Thursday, June 5, 2014 at 11:00 am with Rev. Laurence Quin-Morris officiating. Reception in the Parish Hall following the Mass. Interment, Elmwood Cemetery later in the spring. In Fred’s memory, donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Dr. Georges-L.
