Young, Sandra Lorraine Evans (Dobson) passed away peacefully with her family by her side, on Tuesday, May 27, 2014. Sandy was born July 25, 1938 in St. John, NB. Predeceased by parents Lloyd Woodman Dobson and Muriel Emily Dobson (Goodwin), along with sister Constance Norna Henderson and brother Frank Herbert Dobson. Sandy is survived by her loving husband Ken, and sons Stephen and Allan (Michelle). Much loved by grandchildren Jackson and Ryan. As part of a large, loving family, she is also fondly remembered by numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews who were all very important to her, especially niece Donna Lee (Bill), great nieces Bev and April and cousin Mary Lou. Missed by her beloved dog Misty. Sandy has always been an inspiration to all who knew her. She lived every day grateful to be alive, and overcame many health obstacles over the years, always with kindness, determination and a beautiful smile. One of the first and longest surviving liver transplant recipients in the province, 26 years ago, followed by a kidney transplant 16 years ago, she was so grateful for the gift of life given to her by the donors and their families. Not to be defined by illness, Sandy was very active in the community, as a Social Worker in the fields of employment support and adult protection, along with numerous volunteer roles such as The Flower Cart and Fidelis House. As an active participant in her sorority, she will be missed by her many sorority sisters and friends. She was also a gifted artist, and enjoyed painting, doll making, quilting and crafting miniatures. Words cannot express our gratitude to the many doctors, nurses and support staff at the VG Hospital Liver and Kidney Transplant Unit, for fighting so hard alongside her over the years and especially in the last few weeks, to keep her here with her family, who she loved so much, and for giving her the peaceful, dignified care she so deserved. Memorial Service and reception will be held Saturday, June 14, 2014, 12-3 pm at the Glooscap Curling Club, 19 Crescent Avenue, Kentville, N.S. In lieu of flowers, to honor Sandy’s memory, please consider filling out your organ donation card on your driver’s license, and discuss your wishes with your family. Organ Transplants DO work.
