We regret to announce the passing of Joseph Curtis, of Bay St. Lawrence on Friday, June 6, 2014, with his loving family by his side, in Buchanan Memorial Hospital, Neil’s Harbour.
Born Jan. 17, 1922, he was the son of the late James and Ellen (Dunphy) Curtis.
He was a member of St. Margaret’s Church, St. Margaret’s Village. He was a man of faith who loved his country and community.
Dad was a veteran of the Second World War, having served in Italy and Europe, with the 4th Anti-Tank Regiment, 5th Division.
He leaves behind to mourn his sons, Maurice (Sandra), Brian, Richard, and John ‘Gus’, and his daughters, Alice Curtis-Turner (Glenn) and Joanne Curtis; grandchildren, Charles, Joni and Dylan Curtis, Wendy Hawley, Holly Soucy, Ryan Turner and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Theresa MacDonald, brother John J. (Muriel) Curtis, sister-in-law Mary Maloney and brothers-in-law Michael MacNeil and Bruce McNenly and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Joseph was predeceased by his loving wife of 57 years, Margaret Ann, son Jerome, sisters Rose Burton, Mary MacDonald, Charlotte MacNeil, and Monica McNenly.
Visitation for Joseph Curtis will be held on Tuesday, June 10, 2014, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in St. Margaret’s Church. A celebration of his life will take place on Wednesday at 2 p.m. with Fr. Lazarus Guria officiating. The burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Donations in Joseph’s memory may be made to St. Margaret’s Church, or to a charity of one’s choice.
