DOTY, W. Carl, Lt. Col. (Hon.) – 73, of Yarmouth and Halifax, passed away on June 8, 2014 in Yarmouth, with his soul mate Nancy at his side. Born in Halifax on May 9, 1941, he was a son of the late Winthrop and Sara Doty. He is survived by his best friend and wife of 50 years, Nancy (Cain). Carl served in the Canadian Army (Artillery) as a Major and Commanding Officer of the 84th Independent Field Battery in Yarmouth, and more recently, with the 1st (Halifax-Dartmouth) Field Artillery Regiment, RCA, as their Honorary Lt. Colonel. A proud soldier, he was held with the highest regards and respect by his colleagues and those who served with him. A true believer in the Cadet movement, he was an active Director and member of the executive for the Army Cadet League of Canada, Nova Scotia branch, and he was Vice-President and Director of the Last Post Fund, Nova Scotia branch. He was also a proud member of the Royal Artillery Park Officers Mess and the Royal United Services Institute in Halifax. In Yarmouth, Carl was a founding member of Odessa Services Int. Ltd., Omega Realty Ltd., Gama Dimensions Ltd. and Trico Holdings Limited, to name a few. For years, Carl was an active member of the business community in Yarmouth and took a leading role as a developer during the 70’s, of residential and commercial real estate. Later in his life, he took great pleasure in sharing his good fortune with numerous charitable organizations. Among his favorites were animal welfare, Symphony Nova Scotia, Neptune Theatre, Phoenix Youth Programs, the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, Christian Children’s Fund and many others. Funeral arrangements were under the care of H. M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home and Crematorium in Yarmouth. A memorial service was held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 14 at Beacon United Church, Yarmouth, Rev. Raymond Corbett and Rev. Kenn Stricht officiated. In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place and there was no visitation. Interment took place at the Chebogue Cemetery, Chebogue. It was requested that there be family flowers only.
