M. Sylvie d'Entremont (Burke)

Born In: Sluice Point, Nova Scotia

d’ENTREMONT (BURKE), M. Sylvie - We are saddened to announce the passing of our dear Tante Sylvie at the age of 99 years and 10 months. Born in Sluice Point, Yarmouth Co., the daughter of Frederick Burke and Emilie Pothier, Sylvie had six siblings and was the last remaining member of her immediate family. Her working career began at a very young age as she undertook partial care of her elderly grandmother, Chantal, after her mother had died. Later, Sylvie graduated from the Normal College in Truro and taught school for a few years. She then attended business school and began working as a secretary in Halifax, where she met and married the love of her life, Lawrence d'Entremont. Following their retirement, Sylvie and Lawrence returned to Sluice Point and enjoyed many years of travel throughout Canada and the United States. Sylvie was an intelligent and spirited person who enjoyed card-playing, cooking (her chicken pot pie was the best!), gardening, knitting and reading. Sylvie was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence d'Entremont, and her siblings: Helene, Frederick, James, Jacqueline, Gerald and Gustave. She was also predeceased by a beloved niece, Fran Burke Cooke. Sylvie is survived by a number of nieces and nephews, who will miss her smile and her gentle ways. Funeral arrangements were in the care of H. M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Yarmouth. By request, there was no visitation. Funeral mass was held Friday, June 13th at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Family Church in Amirault’s Hill, Father Maurice LeBlanc, CJM, officiated. Reception followed at the home of Delbert Bourque, Sluice Point. Family flowers only. Donations in memory can be made to Nakile Home for Special Care.
