
Catherine Ann Eaton (Keays)
Born Nov. 18, 1934, in Souris, P.E.I., passed away Friday, June 13, 2014, with family at her side. She was the daughter of May Gardner, of P.E.I., and James Keays, also of P.E.I.
She is survived by her sister, Eleanor Keays, of Vancouver, B.C.; daughters, Susan Eaton, Calgary, AL, Kelly Eaton, Hamilton, ON, Stephanie Bertossi (Eaton), Halifax, N.S., and Maureen Eaton (Lawrason), Hamilton, ON; grandchildren, Patrick Whelan, Kate Whelan, Jack Whelan, Brenna Lawrason and Alec Lawrason.
She was predeceased by her husband, David Robie Eaton.
Born in Souris, P.E.I., she graduated from St. Francis Xavier University with a Bachelor of Science degree. She had a wonderful career with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, later Environment Canada, with Dr. Robert Ackman as her mentor. Her wide variety of accomplishments are known to many. She loved to travel, and went on many expeditions throughout the world, including Antarctica. She had many diverse interests; she was an avid birder and animal lover and a voracious reader. She especially had a passion for gardening, known for her prized peonies.
Besides her daughters and grandchildren, P.E.I. was always first in her heart and she will be missed by many friends and close relatives there, as well as in Nova Scotia.
The family would like to thank the nurses at 8.4 QEII Health Sciences Centre, with special thanks to Peter MacDougall and Dr. Bussey for their kindness.
