Elmer Eugene Legere

Legere, Elmer Eugene- 63, Nuttby, NS. It is with deep regret that the family of Elmer Legere announces his peaceful passing after a courageous battle with cancer, on Thursday, June 12, 2014 at home surrounded by his loving family. Born November 25, 1950 in Truro, he was a son of the late Reginald and Jean (Milner) Legere of Salmon River, Col. Co. Elmer was a devoted family man who loved to share his passions in life with his family. He appreciated nature, gardening, spotting birds and wildlife, deer hunting, fishing, and exploring the Atlantic Province’s in the truck camper. He was blessed with an excellent memory and with the skills and abilities to build or repair anything he set his mind to, and enjoyed being a 4-H Woodworking Leader. He loved plowing snow in his 53 Ford Truck, and spent many summer weekends camping at Bluegrass Festivals with friends and family. Elmer worked most of his life as a truck mechanic and for many years he enjoyed the challenge of working on rock crushers with Aggregate Equipment, travelling the Atlantic Province’s.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Heather (McRae) Legere; special son and buddy Nathan, at home; beloved daughter Laura (David) Westlake and special grandsons Robbie and Alex, of Truro; brother Karl of Salmon River; sister Deborah (Blaine McCurdy) of Manganese Mines; sister-in-law Barb Legere of Debert; several nieces and nephews. He will be forever loved and missed by all, especially his family pet Dixy-Chic.
Besides his parents, Elmer was predeceased by an infant son and an infant daughter; brother Cecil.
Arrangements are under the direction of Mattatall~Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, from where visitation will take place on Saturday evening from 6-8 pm and where funeral service will take place on Sunday, June 15th at 3:30 pm. Rev. Kaj Binderup will officiate with burial to follow in Blackmore Memorial Cemetery, Upper North River. Donations in memory may be made to the Palliative Care Unit of C.E.H.H.C.; V.O.N. or to the Blackmore Memorial Cemetery.
