Smith, Charles Frank, 82, of Hardwoodlands, Nova Scotia (formerly of Flat Islands, Newfoundland), passed away suddenly at home on December 25, 2013. He leaves behind his partner of 13 years, Elizabeth; his daughter, Wanda Bedford; sons, Wayne (Nancy) Enfield, Brian (Christina) Fortune, Dennis (Dianne) Mount Pearl and Harold of Calgary, AB; sisters, Dorothy of Epworth, NL and Beryl of Calgary, AB; brothers, Barry of Prince Rupert, BC, and Harold of Burin; his extended family, Judy (Grant), Sheila (Wilfred) Debert and Marilyn (Everett); many grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a large circle of friends. He is predeceased by his parents, Frank and Bertha; first wife, Jean; sons, Louis and Donald and his brother, Boyd. He was born on Flat Islands, NL, moved to Collins Cove at the age of 10 and spent most of his life in Fortune, NL. He lived the last 20 years in Nova Scotia, first in Halifax, then Wellington and finally in Hardwoodlands. He was a deep-sea fisherman for 46 years working on the Grand Banks starting as a cabin-boy at the age of 15 and working the last 25 years of his career as a captain. He enjoyed bowling, playing cards and most of all dancing every weekend. He was a very quiet man and was liked by everyone who knew him. He was known to most as Skipper Charlie.

The Funeral Service took place on Saturday, June 21st, at 2:00 p.m. from Wiseman’s Funeral Home in Fortune. Inurnment followed at the United Church Cemetery in Fortune.
