ASHFORD, JAMES J. - 1939 - 2014 - Miramichi - James Joseph Ashford, husband of Helen M. Ashford, of Heritage Road, Miramichi, passed away at his residence on Sunday, June 22, 2014, at the age of 74. Born in Chatham, on September 3, 1939, he was the son of the late William E. and Della (Thibeau) Ashford. He was a retired school bus driver with Districts 10 and 16 School Boards; he was a member of Branch # 3, Royal Canadian Legion, Miramichi and attended the King St. United Pentecostal Church, Miramichi. He is survived by his wife, the former Helen M. Comeau; four step-daughters, Renee Estey, of Ont., Melissa Comeau, of Miramichi, Diane Lockie and Patricia Lockie, both of Ont.; two step-sons, Blake Comeau (Jennifer) of Miramichi and Ian Lockie, of Ontario; two sisters, Helen Dempsey (Bob), of Miramichi and Grace Moorehouse, of Oldtown, Maine; two brothers, Sterling Ashford, of Sackville, Leonard Ashford (Shirley), of Miramichi and Merle Ashford, of Ontario; one sister in law, Margie Ashford, of Miramichi; five step grandchildren, Lisa, Isabella, Cayden, Jadia, Cody; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Evelyn; one sister, Marie; one brother, William (Bubs) Ashford.
Visiting will be at Adams Funeral Home Ltd., 140 King St., on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Funeral service will be held from King St. United Pentecostal Church on Wednesday, June 25, 2014, at 11 am, conducted by Pastor Brent Carter. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery at a later date. As expressions of sympathy donations to the Riverside Cemetery Fund or any charity of the donors' choice would be appreciated by the family.
