Murray James Betts - 1956-2014
It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of our father Murray James Betts in Burnaby, BC, on June 26, 2014.
Born in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia on June 1st, 1956 he was a son of the late Frederick James and Lois Evelyn (Green) Betts and brother of the late David William in infancy. He was predeceased by grandparents Henry “Jack” Green, and James and Emily (Spencer) Betts. Left to mourn are daughters Jenna, Edson, AB, Adrienne (Jeff), Half Way Cove, NS, and son James (Karine), Edmonton, AB. “Poppa” will be forever missed by grandchildren Jeremy Davidson, Aaron Smith, Charlie George and Meara George. Also surviving are sisters Judy (Earl Perry), Merigomish; Sheila (Bill MacDonald), New Glasgow; Kathy Betts, Halifax; Marina McAleese, Halifax; brother Jerry Betts, Pictou. He is also survived by his grandmother Irene Green (Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow), former spouse Rebecca Cowan (Green) and by many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends who loved him dearly and will miss him very much.
Murray had a long list of interests during his life, was an excellent crib and darts player, an exceptional golfer and hockey player in his glory days. In his work life, he was a general labourer who held many positions with various companies during his lifetime, and was also especially proud of his counselling work with the Detox Centre in Kentville, NS.
Burial and private family service to take place at a later date in Pictou. A Celebration of Murray’s life will be held at the Pictou Legion Saturday, July 5, 2014 from 2pm-4pm.
Donations in his memory may be made to the Burnaby Hospital Foundation, 3935 Kincaid St. Burnaby, BC, V5G 2X6 in thanks and grateful appreciation for the care and compassion the entire staff showed to him during his six week hospitalization and final days. Donations may also be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
