It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our mother, Catherine ‘Katie’ MacNeil on June 30, 2014, at Victoria County Memorial Hospital, Baddeck, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Ottawa Brook, she was a daughter of the late James and Margaret (MacNeil) MacDonald.
Mom was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a member of St. Barra’s parish, Christmas Island, as well as a former member of St. Columba parish, Iona, and also a member of the Clan MacNeil. Mom’s passions included baking for the fall fair, attending numerous bingo games, playing cards with family and friends and square dancing.
She is survived by daughters, Beverley (Paul) Atkinson, Peterborough, Ont., Regina (Dwayne) OJA, Rocky Mountain House, Alta., Helena (Michael) MacNeil, Little Narrows, Josie Malcolm, Ponoka, Alta.; sons, Jamie (Arlene) MacKinnon, Sydney and Daniel ‘D.A.’ MacKinnon, Christmas Island; sisters, Clemmie (Johnnie) MacKay, Little Narrows and Cassie (Dougie) MacRitchie, Ottawa Brook; sisters-in-law, Aggie MacDonald and Mary MacDonald. She is also survived by her loving grandchildren, Michael, Dan, Tyler, Ryan, Alyssa, Kimberly, Megan, Darren, Tommy and Kyle; great-grandchildren, Breagha Katie, Braiden and Leila Rose; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Aloysuis MacKinnon and her second, Angus MacNeil, sisters, Catherine (Guy) LaBerge, Anne (John) Grube and Theresa (Johnny) MacKenzie and Mary in infancy, brothers, Alex (Dorothy) MacDonald, Stanley MacDonald and Angus MacDonald; son-in-law, Doug Malcolm.
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 7, from 11a.m. until the time of the funeral mass at 2 p.m. both at St. Columba Church in Iona with Rev. Hugh MacNeil. officiating. Interment in St. Barra’s Parish Cemetery, Christmas Island. Reception in St. Columba Parish Hall.
