
George Brown

In his 90th year George Brown of Glace Bay, passed away on Thursday, July 24, 2014, after a brief battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family.
George was the proud father of 12 children, 22 grand and four great-grandchildren. He was employed by the Cape Breton Dairy where he was a milkman for 44 years in Glace Bay. He was an active member of St. Anne’s and Holy Cross churches serving mass and doing Eucharistic ministry. He was a member of the St. Anne’s choir for over 20 years and later was a member of the Branch 3 Legion and choir. Dad’s humour will be a lasting legacy as this was passed onto his children who are often renowned for this wonderful trait. He and his wife Blanche celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this past June.
George is survived by wife, Blanche (Seeton); his children, Theresa (John Miller), Charles (Faye), Paul (Darlene Sharpe), Dolores Ronaye, Basil, Kathleen (Dr. Lary Trites), Anita, Denise (John MacCaull), George (Christine Handley), Connie (Loreen Rivard), Joanne (Craig Boyce), Michael (Kathy Woehrle). He is also survived by his sisters, Beatrice McCury and Theresa Daigle.
He was predeceased by his parents, Daniel and Catherine (MacMurray) and his sister, Mary Gouthro (Fred), Pat Daigle and Archie McCury.
Visitation will take place at Curry’s Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay, on Sunday, July 27 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral mass celebrating his life will be held on Monday, July 28 at 10 a.m. in St Anne’s Church. The Rev Leo Boone will be officiating. There will be a reception following the mass and the interment will be in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
