It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, O’Neil Godreau, 90, of Westmount, passed away Saturday, July 26, 2014, in New Waterford Heights with his family by his side.
Born in Grand Falls, New Brunswick on Dec. 29, 1923, he was the son of the late Samuel and Jane (Poitras) Godreau.
O’Neil was a man loved by all who had the pleasure to know him. He was a loving husband, a caring father and amazing grandfather and great-grandfather. O’Neil was proud of many things in his life but most important being his family and his beautiful gardens. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and bowling with his wife Emma and taking his daughter Nelena for Sunday drives to the Tasty Treat. Known by many as “Poppy”, he spent most of his time with his grandchildren Austin and Allyse, always singing, telling them stories and teaching them how to become strong independent individuals.

O’Neil is survived by his loving wife of 56 years Emma (Daisley); daughter Nelena Field, Westmount; grandson Austin (Alicia MacInnis) Field, Sydney; granddaughter Allyse (Chad) Burns, Catalone; great-grandson Damon Burns; sister Dora Clausen, Quebec; brother Alair (Therese) Godreau, Moncton; sister Jean (Arthur) Harquail, Edmondston; sister-in-law Lucy Fitzgerald, Sydney; sister-in-law Betty; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, O’Neil was predeceased by his brother Nelson and Sister Alma.
Visitation will take place Wednesday, July 30, 2014, from 7-9 p.m. at Sydney Memorial Chapel. Funeral service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Chapel with Rev. Doug Murphy officiating.
In lieu of flowers, O’Neil requested that donations in his memory be made to either the Canadian Cancer Society or the Alzheimer’s Society.
