James Merritt

MERRITT, JAMES - Mr. James Merritt passed away peacefully at Bobby’s Hospice with his family at his side on July 27th, 2014. Born in Kilburn, NB, on, March 4, 1941, he was a son of the late Allen and Ethel Merritt. James spent many years working for Department of Transport as a ferry operator for the Westfield ferry. He enjoyed playing guitar at the Saint John, Marina, and had many friends there. James is survived by three sons, Galen of Saint John, Trevor Merritt of Grand-Bay Westfield and Shawn of Summerville; two daughters Charlotte Porter (Patrick) and Nadine Merritt both of Saint John; three grandchildren, Jason Pigeon, Britany Porter and Julie Porter; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Also survived by two brothers Walker of Upham and Isaac Merritt of Titusville; two sisters Beryle Rideout of Kanata, Ontario and Dorothy Warner of Edmonton, Alberta. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his brother Rupert, and sisters Mary Lomax and Marion Doyle.
To honor Mr. Merritt’s wishes private family services were held. Funeral arrangements were in care of, Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave. Saint John, E2M 2L3.
